COVID-19: PART 01
Was expecting a Vacation,
Turned out differently,
Unexpected stuffs began,
Redefining an alarming destiny.
Birth of a Virus,
For destruction or for being curious,
Testing on animal,
Evolved a Curse on Humanity.
Out with an unfathomable rate,
The Virus showed its colors,
World Economy at Stake,
Death rates a Sudden Shake.
Dealing with this Pandemic,
Struggling in Lockdown,
We have learnt to stand up,
No matter how many times we fall.
Hello and Welcome Back Readers!!! Hope you all
are safe and sound these days. As we all know, the situations around us are a
bit quirky where we can’t expect what next. But this is the time where we can take
care of ourselves and our family and stay in touch with our loved ones. So today
we will be talking about some points related to this pandemic so this can be
part1 of the Series which includes many brighter and darker sides of this
pandemic. In this post, we will have a sneak peek into the Reduced Air Pollution
and Improved Air Quality.
As the Novel coronavirus strikes and make
every attempt to tear around the world, it’s exploiting our biggest weaknesses,
from creaking health care systems to extreme social inequality. It has held its
relationship with one pervasive and neglected problem, however, is more
tangled: Air pollution has intensified the pandemic, but the pandemic
has—temporarily—cleaned the skies.
When researched and analyzed about new evidence
emerged that dirty air makes COVID-19 more lethal, it surprised no one who has
followed the science of air pollution—but the scalability of this sheer negligence
and ignorance of the effect was striking. “If you’re getting COVID, and you
have been breathing polluted air, it’s really putting gasoline on a fire,” said
Francesca Dominici, a Harvard biostatistics professor and the study’s senior
author. That is because the fine particles penetrate deep into the body
causing hypertension, heart attack, higher blood pressure and diabetes and
these complications can weaken the immune system and fuel inflammation in lungs
and respiratory track.
Cleaner Pandemic Skies :
India’s hastily imposed shutdowns have been
devastating, leaving hundreds of thousands of migrant workers without homes or
jobs leaving the economy shaken as all the businesses are either shut down or
running from Home though some of the manufacturing sector is open now for
stabilizing economy but the overall impact is worse. In Delhi, where air is
normally choking, levels of both PM2.5 and the harmful gas nitrogen dioxide
fell more than 70% making South Delhi experiencing a Clean Air since last 75
years, a study illustrated.
Data from the Central Pollution Control Board
of India's Environment Ministry also showed a 71 percent decrease in nitrogen
dioxide levels. Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata and Bangalore have also recorded a
drop in these air pollutants, according to CNN. "It is true that pollution levels are going
down and will continue to be lower as a result of lockdown," Pawan Gupta,
senior scientist at the Earth Sciences of Universities Space Research
Association at NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center issued a statement in an official
mail.
Recent heavy rains in the north and west of the
country have also helped in lowering the country's pollution levels as
Rain is a very effective aerosol removal process and can bring down the microscopic
particulate matter level (PM) from the atmosphere.
As the rainy season is sneaking out silently, surely for the next 3 to 4 months, we can expect a lower pollution level. But what after the lockdown ends, are we gonna rush in like we used to ? Surely, we have understood the importance of lower pollution level and we are educated enough to know the health benefits of breathing in pure air, so why not continue the streak.
With this, we have reached to an end of this post, the content in this post is scripted after referring to the relevant information. Stay tuned for the upcoming posts in this Series. See you there, until Stay Home and Stay Safe. In case we are meeting for the first time, Hii this is Tejas Joshi!!!
Great post Tejas! Lot of things to take away from this pandemic - both good and bad. Hope you keep bringing the brighter picture of this pandemic and keep us all enlightened as we all hope to come out of this very soon.
